There are so many positives of exercise. It improves many other aspects of our lives. Some are obvious, like we will look better when we exercise. However, other benefits of exercise are less obvious. Let’s discuss:
Sleep. People who achieved at least 150minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise a week fell asleep quicker and felt were more rested the next day.
Weight Loss. Whereas most weight loss occurs because of decreased caloric intake, the only way to maintain weight loss is to be engaged in regular physical activity.
Stress. Stress can reduce physical activity. Exercise has an inverse relationship with stress. More exercise, leads to less stress.
Social, community Wellbeing. Being active with other people s a great way to develop connections and foster relationships. It also enhances mental and emotion wellness. In the time of COVID-19, there are many virtual ways to foster a social connection. For example, my wife exercises with her gymmates via zoom 2-3x a week. They share stories about their days, recipes and gossip.
Immune Health. During moderate and vigorous aerobic exercise of less than 60 minute duration the immune system improves defense activity and metabolic health. Acute effects are specifically, the acute effects of exercise enhances circulation of white blood cells into the blood stream, elevates cytokines with anti inflammatory roles, and stimulates exchanges of white blood cells into tissues
